Dear King

Post by David Wang | May 27, 2024

I want to express my gratitude to you and to Qatar for my short 36 hour stay in Doha.

I want to share my enlightenment with what your country has given me from when I was mid air on Qatar Airway to my walk down to B7 on my way to Muscat. I couldn’t help but feel emotion with tears in my eyes as I started writing this to you by the gate.

Your people are kind and happy, which says a lot about the King. I meant all the people I met including the workers your country hired from other parts of the world. This includes flight attendants, taxi drivers, restaurant servers, hotel receptionists, and many others.

I am surprisingly amazed by the city, while I was walking Souq Waqif at night and sailing out in the bay with just me and a captain in the morning. I even had a haircut by the people from Nepal.

I understand the name Doha means roundness from the shape of the bay. I feel it represents a circle of wealth, happiness and life from the people in your country.

I couldn’t help but play with the name of this wonderful city. Without your permission yet, I was giving it a new twist: Just Do! Ha!

In the Top Gun movie, they said: don’t think, just do.

I feel it’s such a spirit to connect our intuition to action without overthinking.

Isn’t that the way it was when we were children, which your teddy bear at the airport terminal reminds all of us?

The world can benefit much more from our emotions being a human, the child that’s inside our heart and how we are so alike as humankind.
